Why pay over the top fees? Certification bodies are only suppliers and should be made to compete for their clients. Many organisations achieve certification of their management systems for wholly honourable reasons. They think they have a system that complies with a management standard but would like third party organisations to assess what they are doing and to provide appropriate feedback. Other organisations want certification just for the "Badge on the wall". It is a means of remaining on the customer's supplier list and as such, is just a means to an end. One can not help but feel a little saddened about the lost opportunities of this latter approach but nonetheless, one can not challenge the commercial instincts that prompt it. Sadly such organisations are in many cases missing out in that not caring too much about the quality of the certification service that they obtain, as long as they get the right certificate, they are OK. This could be throwing good money after bad and the tragedy of this has lead to QBSA introducing their Conformity Assessment Service that will be rolled out in the next few months. The Conformity Assessment Service is one where QBSA finds the most appropriate certification body for the organisation. As part of the QBSA membership package (Policy members only), QBSA will research all third party certification bodies and find the best price and service appropriate to the declared needs and targets of the client. Their extensive inside knowledge of the accreditation and certification world permits QBSA to get the best deals for the client. In many cases this will result in lower certification costs, less visits per year from the certification body, and more appropriate and meaningful feedback regarding conformity of management systems with standards. QBSA will, if required, provide an independent witness to report back to the client on the behaviour and conduct of the certification in accordance with the international accreditation standard that they should be operating to. These reports, although totally confidential are collated by QBSA and used to formulate our recommendations for the selection of certification services. This service is applicable for UKAS, ASCB(E), non UK accredited certification bodies, and where required, for non-accredited certification bodies who now form a substantial proportion of the source of management systems certificates within the UK.
