An outline of the benefits and advantages of the QuickFireAudit and KeyFireAudit techniques was delivered to a gathering of 60+ senior quality professionals at BSI headquarters, Chiswick, on Wednesday 9th June 2004. The meeting, which was to explore ways in which more output may be obtained form ISO 9001 internal auditing, was deemed a great success. Representatives from the Institute of Quality Assurance, British Standards Institute, Accreditation Service for Certifying Bodies (Europe), Atomic Energy Authority, NHS and other key organisations were keen to examine the QuickFireAudit technique as well as several other novel and innovative approaches to internal auditing that were presented. Representatives from Certification bodies such as BSI and Aegis Verity were also present to offer the view of Third Party certification interests. The meeting was unanimous in concluding that conventional or past approaches to auditing had failed to deliver the valued added services that business now has a right to expect. Specific points of interest were the competence of auditors and the need to involve senior managers and boards in the quality ethos. It was felt that the style of communication used by quality professionals was sometimes focused too much on the language of the speaker rather than the style of the listener and consequently some impact from the quality fraternity was often reduced. The QuickFireAudit technique was noted for its comprehensive use of metrics that presented audit results in terms and figures that the lay person could readily identify with. The meeting at Chiswick was an Open Space meeting organised by Mr. Jim Wade of the Business Information Network and all present showed appreciation for the professional manner in which the whole event had been facilitated. |
